February Meeting - Remote river winter safety & Oyster Roast

Please join us for the next AWC monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 5. Long-time AWC member and "friend of the Chattooga" George Hedrick will share his recent personal experience hiking out of a wilderness run on the Caney Fork River in KY. We'll discuss pointers to be prepared for wilderness runs where exit access is not easy, and how to be prepared for the unexpected. These lessons leanred go beyond basic swift water rescue and river safety skills, as having to hike uot of a wilderness river presents a new set of challenges that's not often discussed.

We will also be asking for volunteers to assist in compiling topo maps with egress trails for popular wilderness runs. If you have ever paddled (or intend to paddle) on Little River Canyon, Caney Fork, Chattooga, Upper Conesauga, or any other remote-access river, you should not miss this meeting!

Social (half-) hour begins at 7:00 PM, meeting at 7:30 PM. Join us for roasted oysters and boiled shrimp immediately following George's talk. Feel free to bring a side or snack to contribute.
