Roll Practice

Joint AWC/GCA Summer Roll Practice will be held at Stone Mountain
Lake (www.stonemountainpark.com)this year beginning in May and running through the end of daylight savings time in October. Sessions are scheduled for
Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. or earlier [and run til dark].

To get there, enter the park from the Stone Mountain Freeway and
take the first left [after passing through the admission gate].
Continue about a mile until the road crosses the dam and then take
the first right into the parking lot. The boat ramp is on the right.

PLEASE NOTE!!!

(1) The area around the boat ramp is to unload/load only, please
attempt to do so quickly but safely, so as to keep traffic
in that area to a minimum. Try to keep in mind we will not be
the only boaters using this area....

(2) I called security and asked what we could do to make our
visits to the park the best for all, they responded with
two requests: (a) PLEASE wear your PFD in the water,
and (b) PLEASE do not speed in the park.

(3) Also, Stone Mountain policy states that no children under the
age of 6 may be in the water, EVEN WEARING a PFD. So, whereas
I'm not saying you couldn't probably get away with taking your
youngest out to paddle round in the boat, just be prepared to
protest your ignorance of the rule should you get caught.

Leading Trips
Contact the if you want to help organize a trip. Coordinators should be experienced paddlers preferably with CPR and first-aid training. River rescue training/experience is highly recommended. Each trip should have at least two throw ropes and a first-aid kit. Coordinators should know the location of the nearest hospital to the river, and should know a plan deal with it if an accident occurs. Also have a plan if the group should become separated. Contact the Newsletter Editor or make a submission to the to announce and schedule trips.
Trip not listed?
If there is a particular river you would like to paddle, please let us know and we will find an experienced trip leader. a request.
